Dear Designers and Retailers of Plus Size Clothing,
I know you all work very hard to ensure that we curvy girls have something to wear, but I think I need to point out some of the areas where you are going wrong.
FIRST, and I can't stress this enough, just because someone is not a size 0 does not make them plus sized, therefore they shouldn't be modeling the apparel in your ads. We want to see how the item looks on someone curvy, we already know what skinny people look like.
SECOND, I think I speak for everyone when I say that we are trying to HIDE our problem areas, not emphasize them. So please stop putting large neon patterns on shirts and especially pants. It's not flattering and only makes us stand out more. Also please stop putting pockets in the bust area. It's not flattering, we know we have breasts and so does everyone else so there really is no need to draw the eye below our face. And one more thing, please stop converting maternity clothing into plus size apparel. While many of us may have a belly, we do not, I repeat do not have round pregnant bellies. And while they may look cute when we are pregnant, it's not so cute when you're not pregnant and someone asks "when are you are due?".
So please clothing designers I beg of you to think of the curvy girls of today and not the girls of the 1980s. We want to look fresh and trendy too.
Sincerely,
Kristy Lorenz
