Friday

Friday was the 4th of July so I had the kids decked out in their flag t-shirts for the day. We got an early start and headed out to the Missouri Botanical Garden. Because of the holiday it was free admission to the garden and to the Huck Finn themed children's garden.

The children's garden is amazing! There are tons of things for kids to do there. There are climbing ropes, tree houses, a cave, slides, ferry boat, and lots of other fun activities. Corbin loved the fountains and the ferry boat. Nora loved going down the big slide and running in the cave. This garden is the ultimate place for a game of hide and seek.

After spending some time in the childrens garden we walked around the rest of the gardens to see the flowers in bloom and the amazing sculptures by Nikki. They are so bright and colorful and many of them were available to climb on. The kids fell asleep while we walked around and got a good hour nap. Of course every old lady had to stop us and tell us how cute our kids were in their matching t-shirts. It was flattering at first, but then Randall started to worry that all the stopping, staring, and starting would wake up the kids. The docents at the Botanical Garden were fantastic, if someone asked me I could give them a detailed history of Henry Shaw and the Missouri Botanical Garden.

After the Garden we went to the Missouri Museum of History. They had an exhibit on the World's Fair of 1904 that I really wanted to see since I'm currently reading a book about it. First we ate at the Merriweather Restaurant in the museum. Randall and I had buffalo chili and the kids had chicken tenders and chips. The service was really great and once again we had old ladies coming over to our table to admire Corbin and Nora.

After lunch Nora had a cosmic meltdown because we wouldn't let her push her stroller or run all over the museum. Randall and I took turns taking her out of the museum so other patrons wouldn't be bothered by her shrieking. Corbin of course was perfectly behaved and was rewarded with a tin trolley car that winds up - but he calls it a train. The exhibits were pretty good and they had some good hands on stuff for kids Corbin's age and older. But there was a lot of reading with each exhibit, which is difficult to do when you have two toddlers running in two different directions. Corbin liked the exhibit on Lindberg, mostly because there were lots of airplane models and decorative medals. They also had several of Mrs. Lindberg's books for patrons to page through, something Corbin enjoyed. He would sit at the little seating area and say "Mommy I'm reading about airplanes." In one of the rooms there was a giant floor map of the United States which was used to demonstrate Lindberg's 48 state tour. Corbin went right to Ohio and said "Look Mommy I'm in Ohio." This of course got some comments from other patrons about how cute Corbin was. He then ran across the map like an airplane.

After the museum we drove around Forest Park to see what else there is to see next time we come. We then went to the Courtesy Diner for dinner. The food was just what I expected - pretty good, best french toast ever! Corbin was pretty good, he pretty much ate toast and bacon and stacked the creamer cups. Nora on the other hand was determined to open the salt shaker. All the locals at the Diner loved Corbin and Nora and we got several comments about their matching t-shirts.

Then we went back to the hotel for snacks and a swim.
